2010 Future Trip
HELEN OLIVER’S THOUGHTS ON HER FORTHCOMING TRIP
OceanStars :: Friday 18th June 2010 :: This Story
Less than a week now until I return to Sri Lanka and meet up once again with some of the people that touched my heart on the last visit 18 months ago. I cannot wait and am so thrilled Calum, my husband is going to see the country and meet some of these lovely people too. We will spend some time in Vellaimanal, China Bay, hopefully playing sports with the kids after school. Using a huge play parachute to encourage the kids to engage with us visitors, we may even be taught how to play cricket properly! We’ll also meet up with Sithy Farzana, our sponsored child and her lovely family.
Plans also are in place to return Batticaloa having met up with Janaki, Sheila, Jo and Sarah and spend some time in the Ocean Stars sponsored nursery projects and delivering some workshops for the teachers. We are planned for painting activities, parachute games, singing and dancing! Laden full with parachutes, teddies, craft materials and gifts there is very little space for any of our own gear so lucky it will be warm!
Ocean Stars, to me is a fab wee charity that has worked wonders since its creation. I am so privileged to be involved. Dilanee especially amazes me with her energy and commitment to help rebuild the shattered lives of so many.
Many thanks have to go to all who have come on board to support Ocean Stars, through either sponsoring or fundraising. Everything that is raised I know, goes to the people who so need it.
I did leave a bit of my heart in Sri Lanka last time and I already know the same is going to happen again. Bring it on! x
