There was just one classroom and the children were noticeably poorer and hungrier than others we have visited. The teachers have created a visually rich learning environment for them, despite the lack of resources.

Food is cooked at home and one of the mothers shared that the children are now excited about coming to school every day, and attendance is excellent.

Passing through a rural village nearby on the way back, we had a wonderful experience meeting locals preparing to celebrate the 40th day of life of a sweet baby girl whose ear piercing we witnessed. I got to hold the baby and hope to see her at an Ocean Stars preschool in years to come!

We have so enjoyed our time at the preschools, and special thanks to Nisha and the OSL team, whose support has been invaluable. I have to thank Suda too for his patience in trying to teach me Tamil and his endless good humour.
