What impact does your work have?
Since we were established in 2005 we have worked tirelessly to improve the future for the children and their communities.
We have :
- supplied over 258,000 meals
- over 18,000 children have attended our preschools
- 280 children have been sponsored
- over 2,000 teachers have been trained
- over 350 women have been trained in sewing
- Boats and Bikes supplied
- On-tap clean water established
How much do you spend on charity work?
95% of every unrestricted £1 donated goes directly towards helping the children we support in Sri Lanka.
As Ocean Stars is run by volunteers a small amount is spent on administration.
What is your work on malnutrition?
We help in several ways to help families we have gifts of food parcels which will feed a family for a few weeks. There are also gifts of treats for the children to supplement their food.
We run a feeding programme which provides a nutritious meal to those children whose families cannot afford to do so. The impact is vast as this means they attend school and do not fall asleep due to hunger.
How do you help educate children?
The areas we work in are some of the most rural and poorest, many of the families cannot afford to send their children to school.
We have put in place many projects to help these families and children. Whilst the establishment of a preschool is the first step, a major programme we have developed is the Child Development Programme (CDP).
This programme has three elements and focuses on quality education through teacher training as well as assessment.
