Sunday 13th July, was the last day of our annual residential Teacher Training sponsored by Fonthill Foundation UK. Another action-packed day starting with our early morning yoga for children workshop. The Yoga teacher Shivashakti commented that even though there are numerous preschools and Montessori nurseries in Batticaloa and the eastern district, the Ocean Stars preschools are the only ones that introduce Yoga to children during Early years education. She said that starting Yoga during these early years helps concentration, balance, flexibility, increases memory and strengthens muscles. To make the workshop more real, the teacher brought along some children to demonstrate the poses. Their flexibility was at a level that some of us could only dream of!
Ocean Stars Trust believes in upskilling and developing our teachers, so they take to their preschools the very best and latest early years learning available for their students. We also like to encourage our teachers to run a workshop and this year it was the turn of Sinthujah from Chenkallady Preschool 1. She led a workshop on Creative Development. She focused on ways to encourage our students to shows imagination in art and design. She brought along several resources and our teachers enjoyed using their own imagination to create and design. The teachers, as well as completing an online feedback form after each session, give verbal feedback to the workshop leaders. They commented that they enjoyed using natural resources like coconut shells, twigs and fruit to paint and design using their imagination.
