Visit to Puthumurippu Preschool – Kilinochchi
Following our visit to Jayanthigar Preschool, the Ocean Stars team continued on to Puthumurippu Preschool-the second preschool supported by Ocean Stars in the Kilinochchi region.
A warm and traditional Sri Lankan welcome awaited us, as each member of the team was presented with a garland upon arrival. The atmosphere was filled with joy and celebration, as part of the ongoing 20th anniversary of Ocean Stars. Yet another beautifully prepared birthday cake was shared-one of many enjoyed throughout the week as Dilanee and the Ocean Stars Lanka (OSL) team visited various projects across the region.
The children warmly engaged with us: they performed songs, joined us in singing together, blew bubbles, and participated in a joyful pretend bus ride while singing The Wheels on the Bus. Laughter and excitement filled the air as everyone joined in these simple but powerful moments of connection.
Ocean Stars donated a playground to Puthumurippu Preschool in 2012, and it was heartening to see the morning conclude with the children enjoying active play outdoors on the equipment-a lasting gift that continues to enrich their early learning experience.
It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to our preschools in Kilinochchi. These visits remind us of the strong relationships and meaningful impact built over years of shared commitment to early childhood education.
