Sri Lanka is rich in culture and tradition, and one of its most spectacular celebrations is the Kandy Esala Perahera, also known as the Festival of the Tooth.

Held annually in July or August in the city of Kandy, this grand pageant pays homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth).

The streets come alive with:

  • Traditional drummers
  • Fire dancers and whip performers
  • Over 100 elaborately adorned elephants
  • Dancers in vibrant, intricate costumes

Several processions take place over the season, drawing thousands of spectators who line the streets hours in advance for the best view.

An unforgettable celebration of faith, tradition, and artistry-the Perahera is truly a must-see!
